Last week of ITS Internship 4/13/2010

This was out last week at ITS. we were quite happy with the way fog was working. we tried to image multiple systems at once. After talking with mike we brought 5 computers ,all of them were tangent computers, we set up all the computer and connected them to the fog server through the network switch dan brought with him. we tested multicasting by deploying the images to systems all at once and they boot up at the same time and started imaging process. Finally we prepared for out presentation and documentation.

10th week of ITS internship 4/6/2010

The fog server was working pretty good, before that we went into some problems with P Xi boot. we took some help from Dan which proved to be very useful because i think if Dan could not help us with that problem we were again struck in the middle of the project. we started testing the fog server with two clients first and it worked perfectly. we imaged those clients and tested different features of the software. we did not tried multi-casting yet, may be next week.

9th week of ITS internship 3/30/2010

On this day, we started to learn about fog. we downloaded the software and started reading the documentation on the fog website. we were quite impressed by the features offered by fog and we thought this is the one we should go with and we were quite sure we can work this out since the installation guide was very well explained and was clear enough to make things settled down to start installing fog and testing it.

8th week of ITS Internship 3/23/10

after successfully installing clonezilla, we ran into problems working it correctly as once we installed clonezilla we cannot change anything since it has no options to do any configurations. For few days we tried to solve the problems with clonezilla but even after searching a lot on the internet and forums and other stuff we were unable to find any solution anywhere. so we thought to move and test anotehr alternative which is fog.

5th Week at ITS 02/23/2010

This week Adam and Dan had setup client computers for clonezilla project. Although everything worked good, the server computer was not able to connect to Internet. I worked on that for a while but nothing done. I tried to google the problem but still I could not find the solution. Dan came in and he setup the network so each client can see each other and the server.
Meanwhile we decided to interview some of the people of ITS for our Ghost Project, but we weren't able to find them, so we emailed them those questions hoping the get the answers we need. After that we decided to reinstall the ubuntu on the server machine and we were able to connect to Internet now.
Next week we might start testing the clonezilla software for Imaging process.

4th Week at ITS 02/16/2010

I met Mike and told him that I will join my team members after the class and on thursday to work on the Ghost Project. So as soon as we finished with the class, we went to ITS and swiped our cards.

Dan brought Ubuntu Server CD, we selected one of the machines that were repaired and stacked in line at one corner in the room. First we installed ubuntu Server on that machine and then clonezilla -server edition. Dan brought with him his laptop and step by step from the Quick Start guide we successfully installed the clonezilla software.

Next week we will setup two client's machines to start testing the clonezilla software.

3rd Day at ITS 02/09/2020

On the third day at ITS I had nothing much to do as the main project is not yet started. I had a new power supply to be installed on one of the machine. After installing the power supply and connecting the wires and power cords I started the machine. Everything seems to be good but the system starts and restarts again. I tried to find the problem, in the meantime Mike told me to download Clonezilla software on one of the servers to be used for Ghost project. I downloaded the software; it was an ISO image, so I had to burn it to CD. I downloaded both the clonezilla live and server edition. For the server edition I had to first downloaded DRBL (Diskless Remote Boot in Linux) software and burn it to a CD. Clonezilla live is suitable for single machine backup and restore. while Clonezilla SE is for massive deployment, it can clone many ( 40 plus!) computers simultaniously.

In the next week hopefully we will get one more server machine and install Ubuntu on that machine, so that we can start testing Clonezilla software.

2nd day at ITS. 02/01/2020

On the second day at ITS we have got nothing much to do with the systems, so Mike told us to Join Jason Hart in Rendleman Hall and observe his work on some support tickets.

At first we went to the third floor of the building to inspect a machine which was infected with spyware. Jason scanned the system with Malwarebytes program and Syperantispyware. we left the system to scan for spyware and proceeded to other issues. The person whose machine was infected happened to have a laptop which she could not login because of some password issue. Jason found that the laptop was not set in the campus domain, he quickly logged in to the ITS account and set the laptop to the campus domain. meanwhile he found the laptop to be running very slow, he decided to scan the laptop for malware and virus.

After we have done with the machine and laptop we went to the first floor to help someone sync their smartphone with Outlook. Jason had to download the drivers which support the synchronization for that particular smartphone. Jason spent sometime finding out the software and drivers to install. After a while Jason realized that it wasn't the latest version he had downloaded. At last he managed to sync the smartphone with outlook after downloading the latest drivers to the machine.

Alex and me came back to the ITS office to clock out for the day.

First day at ITS- 26th January

Today was my first day at ITS to work as an Intern. Me and Alex worked on some of the Loaner Machines which will be used for windows 7 trail deployment. we had to make sure those systems are working fine and write down notes if theres any problem with the system.
Of the five Machines we checked, some of them were missing parts, like one system did not had RAM and Motherboard Installed. we managed to get those parts from the test resources but still that system did not load OS. other machines were working fine but had some other issues, like no USB support, mouse drivers not installed on the system and some had problems with the VGA cards.

As soon as the projects are assigned i think we can start working on them. The 2 hours I spend in the ITS will be good learning experience for me.
